Star Wars: J.J. Abrams Comments On Carrie Fisher's Golden Globes Tribute

In December, Hollywood was dealt a shocking blow when two beloved actresses passed away. Star Wars' Carrie Fisher died shortly after Christmas before he mother Debbie Reynolds passed a day later, and the industry is still grieving over the sudden loss. Last weekend, Hollywood took a moment to honor the pair at the Golden Globe Awards with a poignant tribute. And, now, one of the community's most famous directors is commenting on the ordeal.

J.J. Abrams, who directed Star Wars: Episode VII, spoke to reporters after the awards ended to say this: "She was extraordinary and it's impossible to to really quantify the impact she had on not just legions of movies and books, but also her friends."

Continuing, Abrams said the Fisher had wisdom, wit, and heart like none other. "She was like no other, so she's deeply missed."

The director also revealed that he's known Fisher on-and-off since 1996 and feels blessed to have worked with her.

"Working with her, I got to know her better because it was as intense as it was. I feel truly blessed that I had the opportunity to work with her and be a friend," he said.

This is not the first time Abrams has spoken out about Fisher's passing. After the actress' death was announced, the director and friend took to Twitter to share this thoughts on the tragedy.

"You didn't need to meet Carrie Fisher to understand her power," Abrams wrote. "She was just as brilliant, beautiful, tough and wonderful, incisive and funny as you could imagine. What an unfair thing to lose her. How lucky to have been blessed with her at all."

Star Wars: Episode VIII is written and directed by Rian Johnson, continuing the saga films. Star Wars expands their universe with Rogue One, the first of their new standalone movies that take place without a focus on anyone named Skywalker.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits US theaters December 16, 2016. Directed by Gareth Edwards, it's the first of the new standalone features from Lucasfilm and Disney, which take place outside the core "Skywalker Saga" of films noted by an Episode number. Rogue Onetells the story of the small band of rebels that were tasked with stealing the plans to the first Death Star. The story spins directly off the opening crawl from the original Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope. In that crawl, it read: "Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire. During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire's ultimate weapon, the DEATH STAR, an armored space station with enough power to destroy an entire planet."

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is in theaters today.
