The 'Star Wars Show' Reveals Jar Jar Frozen In Carbonite At Lucasfilm

Ever since his debut in The Phantom Menace, Star Wars fans have mocked and ridiculed Jar Jar Binks, the goofy and clumsy CGI character that Ahmed Best helped bring to life. Some fans channeled their hatred for the character into a creative motivation, going so far as to make a life-size replica of what Jar Jar would look like if he were frozen in carbonite. The fans presented George Lucas with their creation at Celebration III and the filmmaker put it on display at Lucasfilm, which a recent episode of The Star Wars Show revealed. You can see it in the video below at the 3:12 mark.

For nearly 20 years, Jar Jar has served as a consummate punchline for Star Wars fans, an easy go-to reference for one of the silliest things to come out of the films.

Lucas, however, still loves the character, despite the negative reaction from many fans. At the D23 expo back in 2015, Lucas explained, "I can't even begin to tell you how much of an influence Disney has had on me," He continued, "I will say one secret that nobody knows; not many people realize that Goofy was the inspiration for Jar Jar Binks. I know that you will look at him differently now. It's pretty obvious, actually, but, um, I love Goofy and I love Jar Jar."

Prior to his debut, the Ewoks were often a punchline amongst the Star Wars community, but ever since, he's taken the top spot.

At Star War Celebration back in April, Liam Neeson continued to poke fun at his CGI co-star, sending along a video message to fans where he joked, "I'm actually here on location in the Canadian Mountain; we're making a movie, a very official movie, about what happened to Jar Jar Binks. Spoiler alert: he did go to the dark said."

Neeson's video was shown at a panel in which Lucas himself was a guest and appeared to chuckle at the character's mention.

Sadly, Chuck Wendig's novel Star Wars Aftermath: Empire's End revealed the true fate of the Gungan. At one point, a character walks past a Gungan, presumably Jar Jar, performing as a street clown, claiming that no one liked him anymore for allowing the Emperor to come into power. This is a reference to Jar Jar's more political actions in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.

Whether you love or hate Jar Jar, the iconic piece of fan art has earned its place at Lucasfilm, showing off the great sense of humor behind the filmmakers of our favorite saga.
