Star Wars Rebels: The Wynkahthu Job Preview

The preview clip and images for the latest episode of Star Wars Rebels, "The Wynkahthu Job," were released by Disney XD and Lucasfilm Animation Monday afternoon. The ninth episode of season 3 looks like it'll take a step back from the master plan of menacing villain Grand Admiral Thrawn or battles between the light and dark sides of the Force for the Jedi and Sith, and instead offer up a relatively light, fun romp - as light and fun as the "Dark Times" era of Star Wars can be, anyway.

"The rebels team with a pair of unscrupulous pirates to salvage a freighter full of weapons the rebellion needs, but find the mission is far more dangerous than anticipated.

That unscrupulous pair of pirates is, of course, Hondo Ohnaka, voiced by Jim Cummings, who made his mark on Star Wars: The Clone Wars before the character began appearing as a guest star on Rebels, and his usually-rival Azmorigan, voiced by James Hong. They've both made their share of appearances on the show, usually in slightly light-hearted episodes, or at least providing some comic relief. The name of the episode certainly evokes thoughts of "heist" movies, so we'll probably see something of the sort here.

With only three episodes left before the winter hiatus, however, there's a natural worry that this is the last "lightening of the mood" before two episodes that promise to deal with both Darth Maul and Thrawn, advancing those two storylines forward significantly. After that, about a month to a month and a half off, before the back half of eleven episodes starts up sometime in January, 2017.

Star Wars Rebels follows the adventures of Hera (Vanessa Marshall), Sabine (Tiya Sircar), Zeb (Steve Blum), and the Jedi Kanan (Freddie Prinze, Jr.) and Ezra (Taylor Gray), a small crew that's finding their way in the nascent Rebel Alliance a few years before the events of Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope. Executive produced by Simon Kinberg and Dave Filoni, the in-canon series helps to connect the worlds of the films and the previous animated series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, with guest appearances so far by characters like Lando Calrissian, Ahsoka Tano, Darth Vader, Darth Maul, Leia Organa, Wedge Antilles, and more.
