Star Wars: Supreme Leader Snoke Rumored To Have More Practical Effects

When it comes to franchises like Jurassic Park and Star Wars, fans tend to appreciate practical effects over CGI creations. Sure, the latter can create some pretty impressive backdrops and otherworldly creatures, but there is something so tangibly real about practical effects that keeps fans enthralled. Lucasfilm wanted to keep the traditional going with its newest trilogy, and now fans have learned Star Wars: Episode VIII will do the same with Supreme Leader Snoke.

In a recent report by Making Star Wars, the site is saying the mysterious Imperialist will be depicted through more practical effects in Episode VIII. In Episode VII, Snoke was only seen through CGI as a hologram during a meeting with Kylo Ren. The tall, gangly alien serves as the Supreme Leader of the First Order, and fans have been eager to learn more about the shadowy figure.

When Episode VIII premieres, according to the rumor, fans will finally see Snoke in his actual form. A giant puppet will be used to portray Snoke that's about 7-8' tall. Several people are required to operate the puppet, and there will be some place inside the suit to make Snoke walk. Of course, CGI detailing may still be added to give Snoke more expressive features or even otherworldly features, but the Supreme Leader will be much more practical in the upcoming film.

So far, fans do not know how much screen time Snoke will have in Episode VIII; However, it seems safe to say he will have a larger role if Lucasfilm has gone to such efforts to make his character more practical. Star Wars fans know the next trilogy film will take place immediately after the events of Episode VII, so Snoke may be seen meeting with Kylo Ren about the Starkiller Base's destruction. There would be a clear contrast between the two's relationship as Rey begins training with her own mentor, Luke Skywalker.

Unsurprisingly, it seems like most fans will favor the latter. It's just one of the many perks that come with being Luke Skywalker.

Star Wars: Episode VIII is written and directed by Rian Johnson, continuing the saga films. Star Wars expands their universe with Rogue One, the first of their new standalone movies that take place without a focus on anyone named Skywalker.
