Each new Star Wars movie has introduced a slew of memorable characters to the franchise, and The Last Jedi is no exception. We've known that Hollywood veterans Benicio Del Toro and Laura Dern were added to the new cast, and the details about their characters, as well as the first photos, have finally been revealed.

Vanity Fair released an inside look at the upcoming film, complete with a gallery full of new photos (taken by Annie Leibovitz). This gallery contained the first images of Dern and Del Toro's characters, and the article went on to explain their characters in a little more detail.

Laura Dern is playing Vice Amilyn Holdo, who is a new character in the saga. The photo of the character shows Dern donning a stunning purple gown, with hair to match. According to the report, Holdo is an important figure in the Resistance.

Lucasfilm's creative executive Pablo Hidalgo spoke a bit about Holdo's character, and confirmed that she is in fact human. He noted that her bright hair is simply a symbol of her culture.

Del Toro's character sounds much different. The photo gallery simply refers to him as DJ. He's described as a "shady character with unclear allegiances", and Rian Johnson hinted that DJ wasn't even his real name. "You'll see - there's a reason why we call him DJ!"

Check out the new photos of Holdo and DJ, as well as the rest of the brand new images, in the gallery below.
