Star Wars: Daisy Ridley Reveals Rey's Thoughts On Luke Skywalker

When it comes to the Jedi, there are few names more famous than Luke Skywalker. Thanks to George Lucas, the name has become closely associated with heroism and the light side of the Force. After all, Luke stands as the main protagonist of the franchise's original films, and Mark Hamill returned to bring Luke back to life in Lucasfilm's newest Star Wars trilogy.

This winter, fans will get to reunite with Luke once again when Star Wars: The Last Jedi makes it debut. The first teaser trailer for the blockbuster dropped last week during Star Wars Celebration, and fans were teased that Luke would not be the same man in this film which they met before. Now, Daisy Ridley is seconding those accusations as the actress says Rey is also let down by how different Luke acts towards her.

In an interview with MTV, Ridley said Rey and Luke have a very tenuous relationship because the older Jedi is not at all like she expected.

"There were all these expectations on Luke right from the beginning — this is your calling, this is what you have to do, you have to train. And then clearly something's taken him away," she explained.

"In a way, they're both similar, but she's very much looking up to him to be this thing that she thinks he is, and a long time's passed."

Star Wars: The Last Jedi, from writer/director Rian Johnson, is in post-production now for a December 15, 2017 release. The film follows-up and continues the story of the next generation of the saga as Rey, Poe, Finn, and Kylo Ren find their place in the galaxy and follow the legacy of Luke Skywalker, Leia, and Han Solo. Daisy Ridley returns to star as Rey, with other returning stars John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Peter Mayhew, Andy Serkis, Anthony Daniels, Lupita Nyong'o Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher as General Leia Organa. Benicio Del Toro and Laura Dern join the cast in as-yet-unrevealed roles.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is the next Lucasfilm movie on the calendar, set to release December 15.
