Star Wars: Watch a 16-Bit Recreation of Darth Vader's Badass Rogue One Scene

Everyone was talking about that Darth Vader scene after seeing Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Closing out the film, Darth Vader moves to take care of the fleet and get the plans to the Death Star, beamed to the Rebel Fleet before the Scarif base destruction, back in Imperial hands. He tears through the fleeing Rebels like butter, slashing, stabbing, choking, and pushing his way to his goal.

Well, someone managed to make it - if not cooler, then at least as cool, as Mr. Sunday Movies recreated the scene in 16-bit animation. The recreation makes it look like a classic side-scrolling video game from the Super Nintendo days, and if it doesn't make you desperately wish for a "Super Star Wars: Rogue One" game, then you're probably simply too young to remember the glory days.

The attention to detail is incredible, complete with the Force pulling of Rebel blasters and the fleeing Tantive IV at the end of the video. There's even the slightly altered Imperial March at the end of the video, as composed by Michael Giacchino (after John Williams), done in 16-bit chip tones. The only problem is, now there's no video game version of this to actually play, so it's a big tease.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is in theaters now. Directed by Gareth Edwards, it's the first of the new standalone features from Lucasfilm and Disney, which take place outside the core "Skywalker Saga" of films noted by an Episode number. Rogue One tells the story of the small band of rebels that were tasked with stealing the plans to the first Death Star. The story spins directly off the opening crawl from the original Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope. In that crawl, it read: "Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire. During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire's ultimate weapon, the DEATH STAR, an armored space station with enough power to destroy an entire planet."
