Mark Hamill On Whether A Young Luke Skywalker Standalone Will Happen

07/25/2017 09:26 pm EDT

When it comes to Star Wars, it is hard to find a Jedi who can top Luke Skywalker. The series has its fair share of Force users, but Luke's reputation with fans makes his legacy impossible to beat. As such, it's not surprising to hear some fans have petitioned Lucasfilm to make a Luke Skywalker standalone, but Mark Hamill isn't too sure that will ever happen.

Recently, the actor stopped by The Late Late Show with James Corden, and Anna Faris questioned the actor about his Star Wars tenure. It was there Hamill admitted he has no clue what a Luke Skywalker standalone could be about.

"Someone said to me, 'You know, they're making a young Han Solo film. Are you going to make a young Luke Skywalker movie?'" Hamill started.

"I thought, 'Boy, what a boring film that would be.' It would be me on the farm at age twelve or something. The whole point of the original film was that he never had any sort of experience like that. I don't there's [a reason]."

When you look at Luke's life, Star Wars fans can understand why Hamill is iffy about a standalone movie happening. Star Wars: A New Hope takes place when Luke is around 19-years-old, and the boy is hardly a traveled man at that age. The character's idea of a hot night out is picking up power converters at Tosche Station unlike his world-weary comrade Han Solo.

When A New Hopes catches up with Han Solo, the character is creeping up on 30-years-old. The rogue comes off as a man with a complicated past, and Han Solo's standalone movie has lots of room to explore how the pilot became the devilish character fans fell for back in 1977.

If you want to watch a Star Wars movie about Luke Skywalker, the solution is simple. All you need to do is rent A New Hope; The classic sci-fi film already has everything you need.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is the second film in the new Star Wars sequel trilogy that began with Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015. The film will deal with Luke training Rey to become a, and possibly the last, Jedi. Meanwhile, the Resistance, including Poe Dameron and First Order defector Finn, continues to fight against the First Order, led by General Hux, while Supreme Leader Snoke and his Dark Side follower Kylo Ren continue their mysterious plot.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is written and directed by Rian Johnson and stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong'o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, Andy Serkis, Benicio Del Toro, Laura Dern, and Kelly Marie Tran.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters December 15.
