Watch Rogue One's Chirrut Imwe Beat Up Stormtroopers in Hot Toys Stop Motion

If you've read any review of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, then chances are you've read some major praise for Donnie Yen, who plays the blind Force monk Chirrut Îmwe in the film. He's an absolute standout in an exceptional cast, and his most impressive fight scene, for which he developed an all-new form of martial arts, will be blowing minds this opening weekend.

Well, Hot Toys liked it so much, they decided to show off their new Chirrut Îmwe Deluxe figure (now available to pre-order) with an incredible stop motion version of the encounter on Jedha. He takes down armored stormtroopers with efficiency using naught but his fists and staff, in a video that features a toy so realistic, they had to place a "not actual footage" warning at the start of it.

"Today Hot Toys is thrilled to present a stop-motion animated short featuring Chirrut Îmwe, the new Rebel hero played by international martial arts superstar Donnie Yen, in an exhilarating fight scene inspired by the movie trailer and made entirely with 1/6th scale collectible figures by Hot Toys!" the action figure company wrote.

"The astonishing animation and explosive action choreography is made possible by the remarkable articulation featured in the 1/6th scale Chirrut Îmwe collectible figure, and the impeccable likeness to Donnie Yen surely makes the short look exceptionally realistic!

"Although it runs less than two minutes, the short took over a month to create and incorporated more than 2,600 still pictures in addition to some slick CG enhancements. We hope you all enjoy watching it and appreciate our tribute to the new Star Wars experience! May the Force be with you!"

You can see the real Chirrut Îmwe, played by Donnie Yen, in action starting tonight at early showings in the US (or all day if you're in the UK, where it officially opened today).

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

hits US theaters December 16, 2016. Directed by Gareth Edwards, it's the first of the new standalone features from Lucasfilm and Disney, which take place outside the core "Skywalker Saga" of films noted by an Episode number. Rogue Onetells the story of the small band of rebels that were tasked with stealing the plans to the first Death Star. The story spins directly off the opening crawl from the original Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope. In that crawl, it read: "Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire. During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire's ultimate weapon, the DEATH STAR, an armored space station with enough power to destroy an entire planet."
