Andrew Lincoln Recalls His First Scene Shot On The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead may be quickly approaching its 100th episode in the Season 8 premiere this October but the 99 episodes which have lead to this point have been an unforgettable journey for Rick Grimes actor Andrew Lincoln.

In fact, the journey has been so unforgettable, Lincoln can recall his very first scene on the series. During The Walking Dead's panel at San Diego Comic Con, he did just that after a fan asked which scene was her first with the production. As it turns out, the actor which he shared the scene with is no longer on the show -- but looking back at Season 1, the chances of a supporting role continuing into Season 8 is about 4 in 20.

"It was me and Jon Bernthal on that road doing the car block," Lincoln said. "Jon, his knee was busted, so I had to drive him around Atlanta on the way to work and I kept driving on the left hand side of the road and then I had to get in a car with him and we had to drive at about 80 miles per hour and then stop abruptly. Jon had never sweat more in his life."

The scene Lincoln is recalling was not far from the first on The Walking Dead. In fact, the first scene may have taken place only a few days or weeks later as Lincoln's Rick gunned down the first walker the show would introduce as a little girl holding a bunny rabbit with a ripped open face approached. From there, the series took viewers to a flashback, seeing Rick and Bernthal's Shane Walsh sitting in their cop car discussing real life issues. Not long after, the two were in a high speed pursuit with a car full of criminals and tossing spike strips on the road to try and stop them.

"It was Jon Bernthal and me, terrified, trying to make sense of where we were and it was thrilling," Lincoln said. "This has been the most incredible thing in my life. It's been the most incredible experience."

Bernthal would last less than two seasons on The Walking Dead before Shane was killed off. His character, however, remains one of the most memorable.
