Did The Walking Dead Comics Just Kill [Spoiler]?

WARNING: Spoilers ahead for The Walking Dead comic, issue #161.

The newest issue of The Walking Dead was released in stores this week, and it was one of the more action-packed episodes in recent memory.

Part 5 of The Whisperer War began where the last left off - with Carl and Maggie rushing into the burning Hilltop mansion. The Whisperers had attacked the community in the last issue, and they used flaming arrows to set the mansion ablaze. Carl, Lydia, and Maggie escaped the flames, only to realize that Sophia and Hershel were still inside.

As #161 began, Carl and Maggie rushed back into the burning building. They found Maggie's children fairly quickly, but Carl didn't think that was enough.

Playing the hero, Carl told Maggie that others were surely still sleeping in the building, and it needed to be evacuated. Maggie tried to do it herself, but Carl told her, "No! You're too important."

While helping some others out of the house, some of the structure came down near Carl. He moved some people out of the way, but took the entire impact on himself. As the house was coming down, Aaron and Dr Carson were able to pull Carl outside.

Dr Carson tries to perform CPR on Carl to get him breathing again, and Aaron fights off incoming enemies. In one of their final frames, Carson is yelling, "C'mon" while pounding on Carl's chest.

At this point, it looks like Carl won't make it.

A few pages later, scattered amidst many different frames, it looks like Carl is waking up. While his eyes are still closed, he appears to be moving, and Carson is telling him to breathe.

It was hard to tell who was who in these frames, due to their smaller size. Many readers have missed this little detail, and have thought Carl to be dead. He still could be, but his stirring in this tiny frame makes it seem like the kid will survive for another issue.
