The Walking Dead: Did You Catch Eugene's Nod To Abraham In 'Hostiles And Calamities'?

WARNING: Major spoilers ahead for The Walking Dead's latest episode of season seven, 'Hostiles And Calamities'.

While Abraham Ford might be gone on The Walking Dead, his spirit definitely lives on. When interacting with Negan at the beginning of the episode, Eugene has a great little call-back to his fallen friend.

In order to prove to Negan that he's worth something, Eugene pulls the same trick that he pulled with Eugene. He tells Negan the exact same lie about the Human Genome Project that he told Abraham back in Texas.

Eugene looks at Negan like he looked at Abraham - a powerful man who can keep him alive. Without a guy like that, Eugene doesn't think he'll stand much of a chance in the apocalypse.

The lie clearly works, as both Abraham and Negan fell for it. By spouting off some scientific banter, Eugene can seemingly prove that he's worth much more than he actually is. The guy took Negan for a bit of a fool - and he was write.

Could Eugene be the only one to bring Negan down?
