Here's Why Sherry Has A Thing For Daryl On The Walking Dead

One of The Walking Dead's newest characters has been the subject of debate throughout Season 7. Some fans hate her for leaving Dwight in favor of the crueler Negan but others see opportunities for forgiveness when she shows a softer side for Daryl Dixon.

That relationship with Daryl Dixon is not one of those moments where fans are looking too far into things, either. According to Sherry actress Christine Evangelista, there's a reason why the character who ruthlessly left her husband to sleep with the maniac keeping them alive has a soft spot for the little Dixon brother.

"I think there's also this thing in Daryl that reminds her of who Dwight used to be, before he turned, before he became a murderer in her eyes. Before they separated," Evangelista said. "It's sad. I think she definitely feels guilt for what she did to [Daryl], even though he tried to help her and her family at the time, but I think she's sort of looking at him now with this longing, like, 'Oh, I don't want what happened to Dwight to happen to you,' if there's anything that she could do. I think that's sort of where she is."

Evangelista doesn't see Sherry's choices as selfish, however. It's self-preservation in the best interest of those around her, if you ask the actress.

"I don't think it's a real attraction," Evangelista said. "I think that she is in this kind of, I don't want to call it a position of power with the ladies, but she's almost this mother hen to everyone. She finds herself in that situation a lot, where she's always been a caretaker, but I think what she's doing right now is just this self-sacrificial thing. When she and Dwight came back to the Sanctuary … he was going to be murdered, and she agreed to become [Negan's] wife in exchange for his life. I think she's looking at this as just this very self-sacrificial thing: 'This is who I have to be in order for us all to survive.' It's almost mechanical in a way. She's always plotting a next move. She's very strong, she's very determined, but she's always a step ahead in some way."

Naturally, this all leaves us to wonder if it was Sherry who left the note for poor Daryl whily he was trapped in his cell at the Sanctuary.

"If there are any questions about that, I think we'll find out soon," she says. "We'll find out soon enough."
