Is The Walking Dead Setting Us Up For A Shocking Death Swap?

The Walking Dead fans have largely been suspecting the death of a certain character throughout Season 7 as they have been pairing knowledge of the comics with the fact that Sonequa Martin-Green joined the cast of Star Trek.

In the aftermath of Abraham's death in Robert Kirkman's The Walking Dead comics, Abraham's girlfriend who he left Rosita for was Holly. Holly became willing to sacrifice herself for revenge against Negan and the Saviors and eventually did just that, plunging a school bus into their compound and being taken hostage. Last seen alive in Negan's custody, Holly was delivered to the Alexandria Safe-Zone with a bag on her head. When it was removed, readers found her to be a zombie and weapon for Negan as she bit Denise Cloyd.

While this may turn out to be the case for Sasha should the character see an opportunity to exact revenge upon Negan before Season 7 comes to a close, there may be something else brewing.

No one is expecting this death to be swapped for Eugene.

Eugene was taken prisoner by Negan in the midseason 7 finale of The Walking Dead three episodes back. He returns to the show with Sunday night's Hostiles and Calamities episode and has been seen in previews with a bag over his head upon being introduced to his new, likely temporary, home.

Eugene's character is extremely valuable to The Walking Dead's story line, especially further down the line in the comics, but he may not be able to fulfill those moments if the team behind the AMC series is setting the fans up for a shocking twist which will see the character off when we least expect it. In fact, Eugene Porter is still very much alive in Kirkman's books and has become an integral part of a new storyline involving a group claiming to be from Ohio over the radio.

There's also the worst case scenario option: both characters end up being handed over to Rick Grimes as zombies, causing absolute chaos within Alexandria. It wouldn't be the first time Negan killed more than one character to make an impact on our group. The villain tends to act in pairs (Abraham & Glenn, Olivia & Spencer).

It will be interesting to see if the storyline ends up coming to fruition in any capacity, as the sibling series Fear the Walking Dead pulled a similar stunt early in its second season, with Madison and Travis handing over some zombified enemies which were supposed to be healthy hostages.
