Ofelia Might Be The Major Villain On Fear The Walking Dead

Fear the Walking Dead's Ofelia has been missing for the entirety of the show's third season. The character was last seen in Season 2, encountering Broke Jaw Ranch founder Jeremiah Otto after taking on a solo journey through the apocalypse.

"I found her in the desert," Jeremiah Otto actor Dayton Callie said. "Took her and had a brief conversation with her and left her in the desert to die, or not die. It's up to her, whatever she is. So, I'm not holding her hostage or anything so people can rest assured of that, but whether someone else has her, that's not my business. I kind of vetted her out in the desert and decided she's better off in the desert than back at the camp."

With Ofelia being left to die in the desert, it's possible she encountered another group who would offer mercy in the vein of a shared hatred towards the Otto family. The newly introduced Walker and his indigenous group of enemies were revealed to have shot down the helicopter in the Season 3 premiere and also killing Travis.

Prior to Season 3's start, showrunner Dave Erickson promised a female villain would be coming to the AMC series."There's gonna be a new prominent character, who we're gonna meet south of the border, who is going to have an impact on Nick and Luciana, and Strand most likely," Erickson reveals. "She will become somebody, I think, who can rival any of the powerful characters we've had on the show or will have on the show. The idea is to create opposing forces on either side of the border and see what happens when they end up in conflict and what happens if our family is on opposite sides of the conflict."

This female villain, along with Ofelia, has yet to make an appearance on Fear the Walking Dead. We know Ofelia actress Mercedes Mason will be returning to the series, as set photos have been published to her social media channels throughout production, but we have no idea when or how she will resurface. We have no reason to believe an actress has been cast for a new role, though.

Could Ofelia be the new villain of Fear the Walking Dead? The woman who started as a sweet, innocent and humble daughter to Daniel Salazar? It's entirely possible, especially considering the darkness already hidden in her family by father Daniel Salazar.

"She is at a point where either she is gonna be broke or she's gonna pull a Carol from The Walking Dead," Mason told ComicBook.com during Fear's second season. "That's what we're gonna discover about her in the back half of the season, but she's lost everything. In her mind, she's absolutely orphaned. I know she can survive but it's gonna be, 'Does she want to?' It's all psychological at this point. Does she want to go on? If she does, how is she gonna do it or is it, 'You know what? I have nothing else to lose. Bring it.' She's literally been shot, she's lost her mom and her father. She's lost everything she loves and she doesn't trust these people. Bring it. What else could possibly happen to her? I think when you have nothing to lose, you have nothing to lose so there is no fear. I think that could be the other option. She's either gonna do herself in or she's gonna become Carol."

Only time will tell Ofelia's whereabouts and allegiance.
