Rick Grimes has come a long way on The Walking Dead. A man who started as a Sheriff looking for his wife and son has evolved into a stone cold leader in the apocalypse.

The fan-made video, embedded above, showcases the evolution of Rick Grimes as he narrates some of the horrific and devastating events which have shaped him into the man we know heading into the eighth season of The Walking Dead. Pairing footage from the earliest seasons of the show with Rick's speech to Michonne in the most recent season, Rick's experiences with former police partner Shane Walsh.

"I had a friend. I don't talk about him. He was my partner. His name was Shane. He got Lori and Carl to safety right after it all started," Rick said to the backdrop of Shane Walsh's intense clips. "Him and Lori, they were together. I know it. I killed him. My friend... He pushed me."

Of course, before the Shane Walsh tribute, came the gut-wrenching recollection of Rick's hero from Atlanta, Glenn Rhee. "He saved me, right at the start," Rick said. "I couldn't save him."

This all includes Rick's pleading with Deanna Monroe upon arrival to Alexandria which reveal what an impressive man he is, with flashes of all the characters Rick has encountered along the way -- from Tyreese and Sasha to the two men from Philadelphia in a Georgia bar who claimed Nebraska was nice.

It's simply impossible to watch this brilliantly edited "Ballad of Rick Grimes" without getting completely hyped for The Walking Dead Season 8.

"I've killed people. I don't even know how many by now."
