WARNING: Spoilers Ahead For The Walking Dead Midseason Finale.

The Walking Dead's midseason finale was everything fans had hoped it would be, and then some. The 90-minute broadcast saw Rick return to his normal self, Negan at his best, and Michonne finally committing to her relationships.

More importantly, Daryl finally escaped Sanctuary.

While it was awesome to see Daryl make it out of Negan's fortress alive, there is still a giant cloud of mystery hovering over this miracle - who gave Daryl the key?

At the end of the last episode, a note was slid under Daryl's door. It read "Go Now", and had a match and a key taped to the back.

There were a few theories floating around online, and many thought Jesus had given the tools to Daryl. In this episode, one small detail seemed to confirm the actualy culprit.

Dwight broke Daryl out of Sanctuary.

When Daryl went to get the motorcycle, that key specifically belonged to his. There were multiple bikes lined up, but the key would only work for the machine that he has ridden for years now. How would anyone besides Dwight have the key to Daryl's motorcycle?

Dwight took Daryl's bike from Alexandria only a few days prior to the events of the finale. Being a careful guy, it's hard to think Dwight would let the keys slip away. He certainly wouldn't let anyone take them from his possession.

This makes you wonder - was this part of Dwight's plan all along?

In episode three, 'The Cell', it was obvious that Dwight wasn't happy with Negan. In fact, many would argue that Dwight hated Negan by that point. When the Saviors arrived in Alexandria the following week, Dwight seemed to be back to his usual antics. He forced Rosita to go retrieve Daryl's motorcycle, a task that didn't really make much sense.

Was Dwight planning his coup against Negan back in episode four?

If you're a fan of the comics, you know that Dwight turns on Negan, and helps the communities fight against the villain. If the show is building toward this storyline, helping Daryl break out would be an enormous display of trust on Dwight's part, and would go a long way in proving to Rick that he wants to help.

Will Dwight provide to be one of Rick's greatest allies in the second half of the season? Only time will tell.
