The Walking Dead: What Happens To Eugene In The Comics?

Warning: Major Spoilers ahead for the entire Walking Dead comic series!

Eugene has been absent from The Walking Dead [Ranked #7 on our TV show rankings] since December's midseason finale, and fans have been anxious to see what came of his recent kidnapping. If you remember, Negan took Eugene back to the Sanctuary because he's learned how to make ammunition.

We're finally going to learn how Eugene's story unfolds on the show, but lets take a look at what happens in the comics to get a better idea of what could happen next.

Up until this point, the stories have been almost identical. Eugene showed up with Abraham, he lied about finding a cure, and he discovered how to manufacture bullets. Negan took Eugene back to Sanctuary with him, just like he did on the show.

So, now you're caught up. From here on out, things begin to get really interesting for Eugene.

While being kept at Sanctuary, Negan forces Eugene to make him ammunition. Throughout that process, he's being kept prisoner, only in slightly better conditions that Daryl found himself in earlier this season.

The doctor at Sanctuary, brother to Carson at Hilltop, decides that Negan is no longer fit to lead. He frees Eugene, tells him to find his brother at Hilltop, and lets the prisoners go.

After the war unfolds, and a couple of years go by, you find out Eugene has finally found love. He and Rosita have started a relationship. It's clear that Eugene is more invested in the relationship than she is, but she's still with him. After Rosita tells Eugene she's pregnant, but that she doesn't want to be with him, she's killed by The Whisperers.

Eugene ends up using all of his lonely time to build a radio, and he comes into contact with a woman that claims she's from a group in Ohio. Eugene has kept it a secret, and hasn't even let Rick know what he's discovered.

Currently, Eugene still holds the Ohio secret. He's also a prominent member of the communities, looked at as one of Alexandria's key leaders. He definitely overcomes that fear and rises to become one of the most important characters in the story.

Hopefully, the show's Eugene will have an equally as important path.
