The Walking Dead: What's Next For Maggie Greene

WARNING: Major Spoilers Ahead For The Walking Dead Season Seven Premiere!

After the brutal episode that kicked off season seven of The Walking Dead, audiences everywhere are collecting their thoughts. The biggest question, now that the cliffhanger has been resolved is, "What's next?"

While this episode will have a long-lasting effects on each and every character, one will be changed more than the others.

Maggie Greene has lost the love of her life, and one of the most popular romantic tales in television has just ended.

After Glenn is killed by Negan, Maggie is sent into a spiral. She heaves, she moans, and she is completely lost as to how she can go on from here.

Just as the episode ends, Maggie tries to go after Negan. She tells everyone else to go home, and that she is going to find her love's killer.

It's clear that Maggie won't be the same, but how exactly will she change going forward?

Well, if the show is anything like the comics, she will use this tragedy as a way to get even stronger.

It's hard to imagine Maggie recovering from the place we saw her in at the end of the episode, but she will. It will just take some time.

After Glenn's death in the comic series, Maggie decides to leave her friends in Alexandria. The pain of losing Glenn is too much, and she doesn't want to stay in their house anymore. With this in mind, Maggie moves to Hilltop.

This move makes sense on the show as well, because the only doctor resides in Hilltop.

Alexandria lost their doctor when Denise was killed, and Maggie needs to be somewhere where her pregnancy can be monitored. The only other doctor anyone knows of is with Negan, so Hilltop makes the most sense.

With both of these things in mind, Maggie will most likely head to the Hilltop colony on the show as well.

Once there, Maggie's evolution goes one step further, and she becomes a leader of people.

While in Alexandria, Maggie was given some diplomatic training by her leaders. She can speak well in front of others, and her strategic skills made her a great apprentice to the leaders.

Now that Maggie has nothing to hold her back, she will use Glenn's death as a motivating factor to lead the people of Hilltop.

Gregory, Hilltop's current leader, is a bit of a coward. When Rick goes to war with Negan, he will likely try and keep his people out of it. Since Maggie wants to kill Negan as much as anyone, she will step up and take control.

This transition into a leader may take more than one season, so we probably won't see President Greene emerge anytime soon. She will need to recover from her loss, and try and have a child, before she can worry about taking over an entire community.

Glenn's death was heartbreaking, but try and look at it in another light. We're about to see an incredible character unfold in Maggie, and it never would have been possible without the sacrifice.

The Walking Dead returns October 30 at 9pm ET on AMC.
