The Walking Dead: Who Is Richard?

02/19/2017 01:04 pm EST

If you watched many of the trailers for the second half of The Walking Dead this season, you can probably tell that Richard is going to play a pretty significant part. While he's taking on a bigger role in the new episodes, many are still unclear as to who exactly Richard is, and why we haven't seen much of him to this point.

Don't worry, we've got you covered.

Richard is Ezekiel's right hand man. While The King has a few loyal soldiers - like Ben or Jerry - Richard is the go-to guy. When Ezekiel needs something done, or needs a voice of reason to talk him down, Richard is who he will turn to.

On the show, Richard is also the King's main opposition in terms of battle strategy. Richard believes The Kingdom needs to go to war, while Ezekiel wants to do everything in his power to keep that from happening.

In the comics, their relationship was much simpler. Richard was even more loyal - if that's possible - because he didn't challenge Ezekiel in the same way. When Ezekiel spoke, Richard listened. He did whatever he could to make sure the King was happy and satisfied.

This made the two men seem closer in the comics, but they're still great friends on the show. They've run together for a long time, and they plan on keeping close as the years go on.

As you'll probably learn over the course of this season, Richard loves The Kingdom just as much as Ezekiel does. He wants to save the people in any way possible, and he's willing to take things one step further to assure their safety.

Make no mistake, Richard is true warrior of The Kingdom. Without him, there's no way they survive for long.
