Why The Walking Dead Season 8 Might Be Delayed Indefinitely

The long off-season for The Walking Dead might get longer.

The AMC series is currently set to begin production on its eighth season in the beginning of May but there might be one thing holding that back: a writer's strike.

The Writers Guild is currently holding out on a contract negotiation, seeking more money for the folks putting the pen to the paper for our favorite TV shows and movies. While much of Season 8 of The Walking Dead will likely have been written by the time production begins, the scripts are property of those Guild members who are aiming to strike.

The last writer's strike took place in 2008, drastically affecting shows such as Lost, Entourage, Rescue Me, The Office, Jericho, Breaking Bad and The Suite Life of Zach and Cody.

ComicBook.com has reached out to AMC for comment regarding whether or not the writer's strike will effect production of The Walking Dead and will update accordingly. Right now, there is no reason to believe anything other than everything going as planned, with a premiere date of the series likely coming in mid to late October.

Rick Grimes actor Andrew Lincoln has already expressed his desire to return to the set of the zombie apocalypse, telling ComicBook.com, "I'm more excited about this season than ever and this is not - I'm not blowing smoke up anybody - this is so real. I am ready to go. I can't wait. It's going to be insane this season."
