Tom Payne Discusses Oceanside Army, Deleted Battle Scene From Episode 7x15

Spoilers for The Walking Dead Season 7 Episode 15 follow.

Rick might not have an army to hold them but he certainly has the guns, now.

After being lead to the Oceanside community in Episode 7x15 (Something They Need), Rick Grimes and company are fully loaded and ready for battle. Now, they plan to bring the hefty batch of weaponry to Jadis and her junkyard gang, in an effort to create an impressive group of allies banding together against Negan.

Whether or not Jadis stays true to her word on aligning herself and her group with Rick's, the Oceanside community will not be a factor. They have elected to remain uninvolved with Rick's war despite the negotiations upon Rick's invasion.

Jesus actor Tom Payne weighed in on the topic while speaking to ComicBook.com at an event for his new Mindgamers film. According to the actor, Rick never saw Oceanside as anything more than a place to get weapons.

"I'm not sure," Payne said of Oceanside joining the war. "I think they're pretty committed to not fighting. They had those weapons. I think that was the main reason why Rick went there. Tara probably told them, 'I'm not sure if they're gonna fight with us but they have all these guns.' Rick thought that was the most important thing. We're just gonna get these guns whatever way we can."

Still, there was an undeniable chemistry between the groups. During the walker invasion on the outskirts of the Oceanside homes, everyone stood strongly and took out the threat with ease pairing teamwork with individual survival skills.

"It was nice to to see them all together with the walkers," Payne said. "There's a moment in that which wasn't in there, where we shot an over the shoulder of me. It was like a video game shot. We weren't live firing because we were firing right at the walkers and I was reacting with the shots and it was perfectly lined up a couple times with the walkers but that shot never made it."

We may never see it, but Payne wants to. "I want that footage," the actor quips.
