Game Of Thrones' Hodor Considering Running For Office To Fight For Marriage Equality

Kristian Nairn has become beloved throughout the pop culture landscape in the past few years, thanks to his noteworthy - and tragic - turn as Hodor on the HBO series Game of Thrones.

And now, the actor and DJ has recently spoken out about his interest in a new field - politics.

While speaking with the Belfast Telegraph, Nairn addressed the issue of same-sex marriage in his native country of Northern Ireland. According to Nairn, who publicly came out as gay in 2014, the fact that the country has not passed any sort of pro-marriage equality legislation is "a disgrace."

"I really don't understand why we're the only little enclave of the country that can't do it." Nairn explained. "There's so much horrible sh*t happening in the world at the minute, I think it's the least of their worries. I think we need to get it sorted out as soon as possible. I don't see why people are so concerned at what other people do behind closed doors or in their lives."

According to the actor, this frustration has caused him to consider a career change - one that would hopefully be embraced by Thrones' many fans.

"Of course I have had thoughts about going into politics." Nairn revealed. "I certainly don't mean now, definitely not, but in the future who knows? I've thought about running for office for later in life, not for now."

So could the citizens of Northern Ireland one day see Hodor himself as their public servant? Nairn, while subtly poking fun at his most well-known role, reassured that his entrance into politics would certainly come from a place of passion. "I definitely have something to say."

Game of Thrones returns to HBO for its seventh season on July 16, 2017.
