King Kong TV Series Officially In The Works

Kong is King once again, as the recently-released Skull Island was a box office behemoth. The film is a piece of the larger connected universe (which also consists of Godzilla), but it looks like that franchise isn't enough for the larger-than-life primate.

Deadline has just revealed that a King Kong TV series is now in the works. MarVista Entertainment and IM Global Television are working together to create the new series, King Kong Skull Island.

The show is being written by Jonathan Penner and Stacy Title - who previously teamed up for The Bye Bye Man - and it based on some of the more classic King Kong works. While the recent movie may have a similar title than this new series, the two storylines will be much different.

The report states that the series will focus on a female lead, surrounded by a very diverse cast, and will explore the origins of Skull Island. If you watched the film, this makes it seem like there may be more than one Kong roaming the island throughout the series.

MarVista CEO Fernando Szew had this to say regarding the new show:

"Jonathan and Stacy have taken a world that has enraptured audiences in all its many forms over the years and given it a contemporary, female-focused spin."

King Kong Skull Island doesn't belong to any network as of yet, so keep an eye as the show looks for a permanent home in the near future.
