Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Documentary Reveals How The Show's Stunts Were Created

06/13/2017 03:47 pm EDT

The Power Rangers are known for their over the top martial arts and combat style, and during the original Mighty Morphin run Jeff Pruitt helped shape much of what fans saw onscreen.

Pruitt shared some behind the scenes footage in his Power Rangers Stunt Documentary, where he describes the process of how all of that crazy action gets invented.

"Every morning I would get up, go to the set and just sit there and look around and just start making little doodles. I'd do little storyboards and I would think of new ways to, how can we flip, fly, crash, kick, spin, and never actually hit anyone."

The choreography wasn't just for the Rangers, as the Putties got in on the action too.

"All of the guys that were going to be the Putties that day, I'd say "go and think of something really funny to make an appearance and they would go off and, every day they had to think of something, like a challenge."

He also recalls working extensively with Green Ranger actor Jason David Frank, who was gung-ho for doing his own stunts.

"This is a little story about Jason Frank. He would come a little bit early, and I don't know if the other guys even know this or not, but I'm telling them now. He would come a little bit early and he would say "Pruitt, Pruitt, Pruitt, let me do the big stunt man, let me do the big stunt", and I would go "well, I was gonna have Austin do that and he was like "no no no, I think the kids would like to see me do it, yeah they really would", super fast hyper all the time. Okay, alright, you do the stunt. So every day he would show up and I would have some Jason Frank thing for him to do and he was just so energetic and hyper."
