With the release of Netflix's Mystery Science Theater 3000 debuting in just a few weeks, fans of the cult classic are wondering exactly how the revival will live up to the original. But, if a new photo is any indication, the new cast will be a welcome addition.

Felicia Day, best known for her appearances on Supernatural and for creating the popular nerd culture channel Geek and Sundry, recently unveiled a photo of her and her MST3K co-star Patton Oswalt.

The pair will be playing the series' new mad scientists, both of whom will have direct ties to the original series. Day playing Kinga Forrester, daughter of original chief mad scientist Clayton Forrester (Trace Beaulieu). Similarly, Oswalt will be playing her assistant, TV's Son of TV's Frank, who of course is a descendant of Frank Conniff's original role. Oswalt is best known amongst the nerd community for his stand-up comedy and his roles on Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Day and Oswalt will appear alongside Jonah Ray (The Nerdist Podcast), who will be playing the revival's host, Jonah Heston. Comedians Baron Vaughn and Hampton Yount will lend their voices to the series as the robots Tom and Crow, respectively.

As it turns out, both Day and Oswalt were not initially intended to be cast members on the revival. Joel Hodgson began conceptualizing Day's role after casting Ray, Vaughn, and Yount, after seeing her work in The Guild and Doctor Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. Hodgson had planned to have Oswalt serve as a writer on the revival, but decided to cast him in front of the camera during the project's Kickstarter campaign.
