'Rick and Morty' Crew Finally Tries McDonald's Szechuan Sauce

There's been a reignited obsession with McDonald's promotional Szechuan Sauce since Adult Swim trolled Rick and Morty fans on April Fools' Day with the long-awaited Season Three premiere.

The sauce was offered for a limited time in the '90s as part of an advertising campaign for Disney's Mulan, but the team behind Rick and Morty were able to try the sauce in all of its nostalgic glory.

Series co-creator Justin Roiland posted a few videos to his Instagram page showing himself, Dan Harmon, and other people involved in the Rick and Morty team trying the sauce with some Chicken McNuggets.

It's pretty obvious just from the enthusiasm that Roiland wrote this joke into the episode. The others are trying it for the first time or don't remember it when it originally came out nearly 20 years ago.

McDonald's Chef Mike went all out for Roiland and the Rick and Morty team; they sent the sauce in a case that read "Dimension C-1998M" with an explanation and a tease that some lucky fans will be able to get their hands on it soon. No word on how just yet, unfortunately.

Check out Chef Mike's letter to Roiland:

Justin,

We finally did it. It took months, but we've finally brought back some Szechuan Sauce.

We'll spare you the physics, but turns out, Dimension C-1998M is a dimension where it's always 1998. 1998 every day. No smartphones, no social media. It's a weird, scary place. But they've go Szechuan Sauce on the regular menu.

So here we are with some precious cargo—the Szechuan Sauce your remember and some sou-venirs from some of the dimensions we tried along the way.

We wish we could've brought more sauce through, but we couldn't risk keeping a portal like that open. Think about it, if you knew in 1998 that McDonald's would have All Day Breakfast in 2017, would you really want to stay in 1998? Of course not. If we left the portal open, we'd have puka shells, bucket hats and boy bands as far as the eye could see. It's too risky, even sauce as delicious as this.

A few lucky fans will also get to experience the glory, but the first bottle in this dimension is for you.

Stay Schwifty,

Chef Mike
