Westworld Creators Say Season 2 Won't Pick Up Where Season 1 Left Off

The ending to Westworld's historic first season was as memorable as everyone had hoped. The twists and turns of the final act left fans surprised around every turn, but it was the last two scenes that had everybody talking.

As the hosts began their rise to power, the humans of Westworld seemed to be lining up for the slaughter. Dolores had an entire group of board members and guests at her mercy, and the Man In Black was about to be ambushed by a large group of warriors.

There was no way to tell what could happen next, and fans will have to wait a little bit longer to find out exactly what happened.

At Paleyfest this year, EW chatted with creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy about the upcoming season. Joy immediately let fans know that they would get some resolution regarding the finale.

"You're definitely going to see the aftermath and the effects of what happened," she said.

Nolan immediately clarified the comment, letting everyone know that the resolution wouldn't exactly be immediate.

"We are definitely not picking up right where we left off."

So, there will be some time between the events of the finale, and the setting of the premiere. That can be a frustrating thought, but at least they promised that audiences will eventually see what happened.

Maybe this leaves room for another two-timeline situation, who knows? Nolan and Joy are hard at work, writing the entire 10-episode season right now. Their goal is to write every episode before production begins, in order to avoid the delays that plagued the first season.

Westworld will return to HBO sometime in 2018.
