WWE: Jerry Lawler Reveals Why He Is No Longer On TV
12/14/2016 01:13 pm EST
Jerry "The King" Lawler is a wrestling legend in his own time. He's been part of the WWE for more than 20 years as both on color commentary and an in-ring performer. Recently though WWE had pushed Lawler and fellow WWE Hall of Famer and former Women's Champion Lita off TV as well as off WWE Network events as panelists due to what was perceived as a youth movement, but Lawler commented that wasn't the case.
Talking to Sports56 in Memphis, Lawler broke down why he was taken off the pre-game panel and that it all came down to the almighty dollar.
"[WWE Vice President Kevin] Dunn said that due to WWE being a public traded company, it comes down to dollars and cents," Lawler said. "That having his salary being absorbed on the pre-show after he was taken off of Smackdown made it a very expensive to produce, so they decided to get rid of the pre-game show."
Lawler even stated that Vince McMahon called him the next day and had reconfirmed that he was not gone from the WWE, but it was merely the cost factor that left him out of that position.
"I'm under contract to WWE into January…they will talk about a new deal then."
