WWE: The TODAY Show Responds To AJ Styles Smackdown Promo

The message of this story is never to listen to John Cena.

If you do happen to listen to the "never give up" star, just be prepared that you will get blasted in a promo during a live television event, like say Smackdown Live. That's what happened to TODAY hosts Tamron Hall and Al Roker, and they can directly thank John Cena (via WWE/Reddit).

Cena hosted the show with them recently, and during the conversation, they discussed Cena's upcoming match with the Phenomenal One AJ Styles at Royal Rumble. Cena referenced Styles as "that guy from Atlanta", and Hall and Roker took his lead and used that term as well. That didn't sit will with Styles, and he even played the clip on Smackdown Live to help him show his displeasure with their choice of words, especially in regards to Cena.

This morning both Hall and Roker, along with guest host Darius Rucker, played the clip, and Hall shared a story that her brother actually reached out to her after seeing the clip on Smackdown Live. They felt that Cena didn't really stick up for them during the promo but otherwise seemed to embrace the feud with the WWE Champion. Hall definitely called Roker her accomplice, and described AJ's hair as "Farrah Fawcett-like" and possibly "needing some rollers".

Hilariously, Rucker made sure to stay out of it, not wanting any issues with Styles, saying "I don't want to say anything because I don't want him hitting me."

You can watch the video here, and it wouldn't be surprising to see those comments in AJ's next promo.
