Austin St John Almost Came Back To Power Rangers

While he's best known as the original Red Ranger in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, actor Austin St. John has had a long journey with the popular franchise, including a possible return that never made it to air.

ComicBook.com's Jim Viscardi recently had the chance to sit down with St. John, and during their chat, they talked about his previous return in the Forever Red episode, where he actually had the chance to meet all of the Red Rangers who had taken the mantle since he left. "It was just special. I don't know any other way to describe it, it was special."

St. John also returned prior to that as the Gold Ranger, but he hasn't made another appearance since Forever Red. At one point it was a possibility, though. "They reached out to me for Mega, uh, I can't remember what it was, Megaforce Smackdown or I don't know, I tink I'm mixing wrestling in there somewhere, but they reached out to me for that via email, but at the time I was in the middle east for the war, so I was over there for four years, I couldn't exactly leave what I was doing. "Hey guys, listen man I gotta step away to go film something in New Zealand. I'll be back in a week. Good luck, the bandaids are over there, bullets are over there, wish you the best", so obviously I had to turn down that role."

While Megaforce Smackdown (which needs to be a name for a future series by the way) did not feature St. John, he doesn't completely close the book on another appearance in the role, saying "Who knows what the future might hold."

Power Rangers currently enjoys a 3.58 out of 5 on ComicBook.com's anticipation rankings, and you can find the official synopsis below.

"Saban's Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late."

Power Rangers stars Bryan Cranston (Zordon), Elizabeth Banks (Rita Repulsa), Naomi Scott (Kimberly/Pink Ranger), David Denman (Sam Scott), Becky G. (Trini/Yellow Ranger), Sarah Grey (Amanda), RJ Cyler (Billy Cranston/Blue Ranger), Emily Maddison (Rebecca), Ludi Lin (Zack Taylor/Black Ranger), and Dacre Montgomery (Jason Lee Scott/Red Ranger).

Power Rangers is set to land in theaters on March 24, 2017.
