Blizzard Considering New Warcraft RTS Once StarCraft 2 Is Finished

Before World of Warcraft became an MMORPG powerhouse, Warcraft was a real time strategy series that spanned three games and several expansions. Tim Morten, the head of Blizzard Entertainment's RTS development team, has revealed that Warcraft may actually return to its RTS roots once the team finishes telling the story of StarCraft II.

"It's very rewarding for us to hear that there's demand out there for more RTS content in the Warcraft universe," Morten tells IGN, "so once we're done with [StarCraft II: Legeacy of the Void] I think we'll get together as a team and talk about what would inspire us to work on next. There's no question, though, that we'll consider Warcraft, StarCraft, or even new ideas. Anything is possible."

Legacy of the Void is the third and final installment of StarCraft II, which began its release with Wings of Liberty in 2010, followed by Heart of the Swarm in 2013. Legacy of the Void still has no release date, so there's no telling when the project will be complete, but Morten says that the conclusion of StarCraft II isn't the conclusion of the franchise.

"This isn't the end of StarCraft, but it's the end of this story for these characters," he says. "We don't have any specific plans, but I'll say that the universe has so much potential for more stories, clearly other stories could be told."

In the meantime, Legendary Pictures I bringing Warcraft to the big screen. Check out when Warcraft and other movies are coming out in ComicBook.com's Movie Release Schedule.
