Last week, The Martian reclaimed first-place at the North American box office and this week it held on for its fourth victory in five weeks. 20th Century Fox's space drama grossed $11.4 this weekend and now has a domestic total of $182.8M. That's just $5M shy of director Ridley Scott's domestic record of $187.7M set in 2000 with Gladiator.
Goosebumps held onto second with $10.2M in its third weekend. It now has a domestic total of $57.1M. Bridge of Spies took third again with $8.1M. Hotel Transylvania 2 pushed its stateside total to $156M, adding $5.8M in its sixth weekend.
Meanwhile, Bradley Cooper got Burnt at the box office for the third time in a row. His cooking drama only served up $5M in its debut weekend. Vin Diesel's The Last Witch Hunter plummeted 56% in its second weekend with $4.75M. Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension only pocketed $3.45M. Sandra Bullock's Our Brand Is Crisis bombed in its debut, only earning $3.4M. Crimson Peak held on for ninth with $3.1M and Steve Jobs took tenth with $2.6M.
This Halloween weekend offered the North American box office more tricks than treats. Overall, the box office grossed $73M, down 23% from last year and making it the lowest grossing weekend of the year. That record had belonged to the August 28-30 frame, which pulled in $87.8M.
