Captain America: Civil War Was The Most Popular Super Bowl Movie Ad

In what could be considered a landslide victory of its own, the Captain America: Civil War Super Bowl trailer was the biggest winner of the night--on social media, of course.

It is reported that the Civil War spot generated 196,000 conversations when it dropped, the addition of Civil War-themed Twitter emoji more than probably aided in that. The runner up? Fox's X-Men: Apocalypse, but at a seventh of that with 26,900 mentions.

In fact, Civil War was more than the rest of the trailers combined. It also topped last year's biggest winners Jurassic World and Furious 7. Both of those topped out at about 47,500.

Captain America: Civil War picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.

Captain America: Civil War hits theaters May 6, 2016.
