Fan Fridays: Is Scott Eastwood Playing Nightwing in WB's Suicide Squad?

The internet is abuzz following the reveal of the latest trailer for WB's Suicide Squad. Along with Jared Leto's Joker, Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn, and Will Smith's Deadshot to name a few, nearly every character in the Suicide Squad has been given a name, save for Ike Barinholtz's character and Scott Eastwood. Fan Chris Brooks has brought up the possibility to us that Mr. Eastwood may in fact be playing the role of Dick Grayson, aka Nightwing. Is it possible that this yet named character is working for Ben Affleck's Batman to keep an eye out on the recently formed team of unstable super criminals? Let's look at the facts.

To start, it's clear that the new DC Cinematic Universe is following the Batman mythos that has already been established to a certain extent. From the Batman V Superman trailers, we've seen Bruce Wayne sadly gaze upon a Robin costume in a glass case, eliciting the comic book memory of Jason Todd's, the second Robin, unfortunate run in with the Clown Prince of Crime. If this were to stay true to its origins, this would be following the departure of Dick Grayson from the Bat-Family, shedding the identity of the first Robin and becoming his own man in Nightwing, setting up shop in the town of Bludhaven. With Batman having his hands full fighting this new "alien threat" in the form of Superman, it doesn't seem like he'd have the time to keep his eyes on this new gang of government sponsored villains, which would make for the perfect opportunity for Dick to enter the fray albeit undercover.

On top of Batman having a heavy influence on the DC Cinematic Universe, with roles in both the Justice League and a solo picture of his own down the road, he clearly appears tailing the Joker in the Suicide Squad trailer. While the level of influence he has in the film is still in question, who's to say that he isn't working from the shadows through Grayson who has infiltrated his way into ARGUS? If Warner Bros wanted to start cementing Batman in their newest universe, introducing more of his supporting cast through ancillary movies would be a sure fire way to do so. Eastwood is an actor who has starred in many films in supporting roles, and while this would be another of those, WB could be thinking of headlining him down the road in his own Nightwing picture once everything has gotten off the ground following Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad.

There have been plenty of rumors regarding who Scott Eastwood may be, with Deathstroke being another likely candidate bouncing around the rumor mill, yet Slade isn't one to disguise himself so much as Grayson is. With the Joker and Harley Quinn having their fair share of run-ins with the first Boy Wonder, and the DC Cinematic Universe taking place a good deal past when Bruce first donned the mantle of the Bat, signs point toward Scott Eastwood being Dick Grayson more so than any other big DC character around. If you feel like it this weekend, crank up some Bohemian Rhapsody, read some Nightwing story arcs, and think of what could be just around the corner.
