Iello's King of Tokyo is a staple at many a board game night, and now the game is getting spruced up a bit in honor of its 5th Anniversary.

For those who aren't familiar, King of Tokyo is a game that places you in the shoes of a monster of your choosing, with the sole goal of taking out as much as you can to ultimately conquer Tokyo for yourself. The addictive gameplay of the original, created by Richard Garfield, is not changing, though, so fans will still know how to play if they pick the new version up.

So what is changing you ask? First, the art has undergone a redesign courtesy of a new team led by Regis Torres. You might recognize their work from the previously released Halloween expansion as well as from the second game in the series, King of New York. From the box art and the rule book to every single monster in the original game, all of it has been retooled. You can see how it has changed by taking a look at Gigazaur's transformation in the gallery.

The game isn't just getting new art, though. King of Tokyo will also come with a brand new character, Cyber Kitty (who looks just as awesome as she sounds) and Space Penguin, who isn't a brand new character per say, but is now being made widely available, as previously you could only get him from tournaments.

The rulebook is also getting reworked, and all the changes will make the upcoming digital version of the game work seamlessly with the physical version.

If you happen to like your Gigazaur's cute and adorable, you'll want to pick up the exclusive Target edition, which will replace the standard Gigazaur with Baby Gigazaur. After a year of exclusivity, the Baby version will be available to all.

You can view more photos of the new version in the gallery, as well as the box art for the upcoming King of New York: Power Up! Expansion.
