Remembering Jim Henson On His Birthday
09/24/2015 12:00 am EDT
Today marks the birthday of the beloved puppeteer and creator of The Muppets, Jim Henson.
Henson not only created The Muppets in his time, but also Sesame Street and Fraggle Rock. He's the brain behind Kermit the Frog, Oscar the Grouch, and Bert & Ernie.
Before his characters and shows took off, Henson created puppets for a children's show on local TV called The Junior Morning Show and also worked on a series called Sam and Friends which featured prototype versions of the characters from The Muppets.
He married Jane Henson on May 28, 1959 and together they raised five children - Brian, John, Lisa, Heather, and Cheryl. Jim Henson would have turned 78 today had he not been taken from us all-too-soon in 1990.
Happy birthday, Jim Henson. Rest in peace.
