REVIEW: Hot Toys Little Groot Collectible Figure

Brace yourselves, True Believers, because your figure collection just amped up to a whole new level of cute. The masterminds over at Hot Toys have recently released Little Groot, the heart-melting, show-stealing mini Guardian that danced his way into all our nerdy little hearts. Our friends over at Sideshow Collectibles were kind enough to send one for us to inspect and the consensus is in: awwwww.

Packaging: The Little Groot packaging is clean and easy to open and close. The figure is prominently displayed through the plastic window, and the bright blue and yellow design is balanced and pleasing to the eye. It makes a fun, uncluttered first impression.

Aesthetic: This figure is adorable. It comes with three interchangeable heads (serious, happy, laughing), so if you want to go the more somber route, you've got options. The level of detail and quality you've come to know and love from Hot Toys is present, from the multicolored stones painted into the pot of soil to the twigs and vinework on Groot himself. The paint pops to life, and looking at the figure you'd almost expect it to have a woody texture.

Posability: This figure isn't meant to be large and imposing, it's meant to be subtle and adorable. It's an endearing 1/4th scale, and has 45° points of articulation under each arm and a 30° point of articulation at the base of where Groot meets his pot. This all goes to say, it's a little figure and you can move him around a bit, but it's not a fully articulated figure with a full repertoire of actionable poses. (Rest easy, though; you can certainly make him look like he's dancing.)

Overall value: This figure captures the magic and the whimsy of the moment when you see Little Groot do a little dance at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy. It's a great gift for collectors and Guardians of the Galaxy fans alike. And for its relatively low price tag, it's definitely the conversation piece that's going to earn you a lot of attention among your collectibles, too.
