Samuel L. Jackson Teases Split Sequel Involvement

On a meager production budget of $9 million, M. Night Shymalan's Split has pulled in a whopping $172.9 million at the worldwide box office, so far. That alone should guarantee the psychological thriller gets a follow-up film, which is good news since its twist ending setup a sequel that fans of the director have been dreaming about for the past 15 years.

In the final moments of the 2016 , we get to see an older David Dunn, the Unbreakable character Bruce Willis portrayed, eating at a diner, watching news coverage of the heinous crimes Kevin Wendell Crumb/The Horde (James McAvoy) committed underneath the Philadelphia Zoo. When two of his fellow patrons mention that Kevin's atrocities reminds them of what happened years ago with "that guy in the wheelchair," Dunn speaks up, reminding them that the evildoer they are referring to is "Mr. Glass."

Samuel L. Jackson, who portrayed Elijah Price/Mr. Glass and who has always expressed interest in a sequel, discussed in a recent interview how Shymalan revealed Split's Unbreakable twist to him. "I got a call and [Shyamalan] said, 'Call me I wanna talk to you about something,'" Jackson told Collider, while doing press for Kong: Skull Island. "And I called him, because I always do when I get a message from him always hoping [it's Unbreakable 2], and he said, 'I just did this film called Split, I want you to see it,' and I was like 'OK, I'm down with that.' I had no idea what Split was about or anything else, and he said, 'We'll talk after you see it.' So I went to the arranged screening and I called him immediately and was like, 'OK dude does this mean what I think it means?' and he was like, 'Well first we gotta see how the movie does'. And I think the movie's done well enough now to merit the 'OK, let's put this together.'"

Jackson then talked about whether or not The Horde is a worthy adversary for Dunn, and how Mr. Glass will react to this newest superhuman. "I think he's an adequate foe for what Bruce's Unbreakable character is in terms of him being sort of unbreakable too in that kind of way," he explained. "and me having found now—f--k, that would be two people that Elijah would look at and go, 'Why are they so this and I'm so this on this end of the spectrum?' It's just a matter of breaking my ass out of wherever that mental institution was they had me locked up and let's get it on, let's see what happens!"

Writer/director/producer M. Night Shyamalan returns to the captivating grip of The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and Signs with Split, an original thriller that delves into the mysterious recesses of one man's fractured, gifted mind. Following last year's breakout hit The Visit, Shyamalan reunites with producer Jason Blum for the film.

While the mental divisions of those with dissociative identity disorder have long fascinated and eluded science, it is believed that some can also manifest unique physical attributes for each personality, a cognitive and physiological prism within a single being.

Though Kevin (James McAvoy) has evidenced 23 personalities to his trusted psychiatrist, Dr. Fletcher (Betty Buckley), there remains one still submerged who is set to materialize and dominate all the others. Compelled to abduct three teenage girls led by the willful, observant Casey (Anya Taylor-Joy, The Witch), Kevin reaches a war for survival among all of those contained within him—as well as everyone around him—as the walls between his compartments shatter apart.
