Marvel Comics and Lucasfilm have revealed Marco Checchetto's cover illustration for Star Wars: Shattered Empire #2.

The cover features a mysterious new character. She's standing with a Rebel Alliance A-Wing behind her, suggesting she may be an ally to the cause…or perhaps a bounty hunter who took the spacecraft by force.

Our best bet is that the character is Shara Bey, one half of the Rebel husband and wife team that serve as the major players in the series. The other half is Shara's husband Kes.

"Shara flies, Kes is a ground-pounder, and a very experienced one," Rucka told StarWars.com in August. "So, they have spent more time apart than together, and they're in the Outer Rim world where the Imperial presence is felt, and they're hoping that they can bring an end to this. But they're both very tired veterans, and they come out of [the Battle of] Endor with the elation that we see in [Return of the Jedi]. 'We've won. It's over.' — only to discover that, no it's not. The Empire was huge."

Star Wars: Shattered Empire, the Star Wars comic book event from Checchetto and Rucka, is the first Marvel Star Wars comic to take the story beyond Return of the Jedi. As part of the Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the series will follow Han, Leia, Luke, and the rest of the team immediately after the Battle of Endor concluded the original Star Wars trilogy.

There's also a photo variant cover featuring Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) in Return of the Jedi. Check out both covers in the gallery below.

Star Wars: Shattered Empire kicks off in September.
