Steve Rogers Returns As Captain America With A New Costume And Shield In New Series

During the Marvel's Captain America: 75 Heroic Years special airing on ABC, a quick little publishing update was tucked in towards the end in which a familiar face is returning to an old mantle, with new duds. That's right, it looks like Steve Rogers is donning the red, white and blue once again and even has a new accessory. The series, Steve Rogers: Captain America, will be written by Nick Spencer and will have art by Jesus Saiz.

Although Rogers is currently sidelined by literal old age, Marvel.com revealed that Rogers will be back in action after Avengers: Standoff, a new crossover event between several Avengers titles. "Without spoiling too much of Standoff at this early date, something happens that restore Steve to full vigor, which will obviously greatly impact his own mission and his standing within the Marvel Universe," Spencer told Marvel.com. "The biggest part of that? He's Captain America once again."

Despite Rogers returning to action, this doesn't mean Sam Wilson will relinquish the Captain America title or shield anytime soon. "When Steve handed the shield to Sam, it didn't come with any caveats," Spencer said. While Wilson will handle more topical and current threats in Captain America: Sam Wilson (also written by Spencer, with art by Daniel Acuna), Rogers will fight a resurgent Hydra organization in Steve Rogers: Captain America.

Rogers won't be the only character returning to action in the new book. Sharon Carter will also appear in the series and Spencer teased appearances by several other familiar faces from Rogers' past. In addition, Captain America will also wield a hi-tech variant of his classic Golden Age shield.

Keep an eye out for Steve Rogers: Captain America, out this summer at a comic book store near you.
