Dragon Ball Creator On Which Heroes He'd Focus On In A New Story

Years ago, fans were first introduced to Dragon Ball thanks to Akira Toriyama. The up-and-coming author made a major departure from his previous work when Shueisha began publishing Dragon Ball in Weekly Shonen Jump. The adventurous story followed a boy named Son Goku as he traveled the world to collect a series of magical Dragon Balls, but the carefree series eventually shifted towards awe-inspiring battles. On TV, fans saw this change through Dragon Ball Z as Goku became a fully fledged hero, but it looks like there's another character from the series Toriyama wouldn't mind giving his own series.

In the past, various publishers have gotten permission to create spin-off Dragon Ball manga series. Heroes like Vegeta have seen themselves featured in these projects, but one of Earth's mightiest heroes has been ignored. Toriyama would be interested in changing that.

In the fourth volume of Daizenshuu, the creator of Dragon Ball was asked which hero he'd want to focus on if he were to drawn another Dragon Ball manga. Toriyama's answer may surprise you.

"Mister Satan would be the one I'd want to make into the protagonist," Toriyama said.

"How about a gag manga with him and Boo? The world grappling champion Mister Satan. Debuting in the second half of the story, he's a cute character who took off on his own. It'd be nice if this gag manga were to become a reality!"

Of course, the folks at Shueisha are busy enough with one very popular Dragon Ball spin-off at the moment. Last year, the publisher released a gag manga starring Yamcha, a long-time member of the series' Z-Fighters. The manga tells the story of a Dragon Ball fan who was reincarnated as Yamcha and endeavors to make the lackluster fighter into a bonafide warrior.
