Dragon Ball Super Episode 80 Synopsis Teases Gohan's Big Battle

The 'Universal Survival' arc is underway on Dragon Ball Super, and the long-winding story has only just started. Earlier this month, fans watched as Goku spurred the Omni-Kings to prepare a multiverse martial arts tournament, and the carefree hero discovered the request came with a hefty price. All the universes are mandated to participate in the affair, but each losing team with see their homes obliterated. This week, the saga will continue with Mr. Buu fighting a Universe 9 warrior, but Gohan is set to follow after the pink alien's battle. Now, fans have finally learned a bit more about the half-Saiyan's fight thanks to Weekly Shonen Jump.

In the recent issue of Weekly Shonen Jump, fans were treated to a synopsis for episode 80 of Dragon Ball Super. John Blankenship took the time to translate the description for English-speaking fans, and you can read it below. So, of course, spoilers!

"Gohan is blinded! His battle against the Venomous Lavenda begins!!
Universe 7 is pumped after their victory in the first round! Moving on to the second round, Gohan is up against the Universe 9 warrior Lavenda. Blinded by Lavenda's poison, Gohan cannot read Lavenda's ki and seems to be in for a tough fight!!

Round 2 of the Omni-Present Match!!
Who's the opponent Gohan is challenging?!
The second-oldest brother in Trio the Dangers, he's also known as "Venomous Lavenda".
Gohan heads into battle as the contestant for Universe 7! After getting into a tight spot, what is his counterattack?!

Goku This Week: unperturbed by his son's pinch!
Gohan throws himself into battle for the first time in a long while. Goku observes his son's battle! Goku declares Gohan's pinch to instead be an opportunity…?!"

The synopsis gives fans a few interesting updates to take note of. First, Mr. Buu won his battle against Basil, but Universe 7 is put in a pickle when Gohan fights. The younger fighter finds himself blinded as he fights against the warrior Lavenda. Unable to read his opponent's stance, Gohan is said to be in a tight spot, but Goku seems totally unaffected by his son's dilemma.

This month, Dragon Ball Super's story arc kicked off the 'Universal Survival' saga. You can check out the brief synopsis for it below:

"At Goku's request, the Omni-Kings' "Tournament of Power" martial arts tournament between universes now begins! …But this also proves to be the beginning of universal destruction. What awaits the victors of this tournament, and the vanquished…?! How will these intense team battles between the elites of each universe turn out…?!"

As for the saga's start date, the new arc premiered on February 5, 2017. The "Universal Survival" saga is part of the recent simulcast agreement that sites like Crunchyroll and Funimation have scored. Dragon Ball Super airs on Crunchyroll Saturdays at 7:15 p.m. CST. Toonami airs the English dub on Adult Swim Saturdays at 11:30 p.m.
