Dragon Ball Super Artist Hints At A Major 'Universal Survival' Plot Twist

For those of you keeping up with Dragon Ball Super's new story arc, then you know action is finally about to rev up. The 'Universal Survival' saga kicked off back in February with some explosive exhibition matches, but a slew of filler-esque episodes have kept fans preoccupied as of late. However, in the coming weeks, Goku and his comrades will get closer to starting the Tournament of Power. With the line-up for Universe 7's team all but filled, there is little left for Goku to do now other than fight, right?

Psyche! That's what Dragon Ball Super would like you to think. However, according to the franchise's artist, the anime is about to pull a big one over fans.

Recently, illustrator Toyotaro spoke with Wired.It about his work on Dragon Ball Super. The Italian site asked the Akira Toriyama's successor to say something about Dragon Ball Super's 'Universal Suvival' arc. Here is what Toyotaro had to say:

"I can only say this: do not think you already know the definitive teams for the upcoming Tournament of Power. Even if they have been already revealed."

Say what??

Back when the 'Universal Survival' arc was announced, fans were led to believe Universe 7 and its contemporaries had already set its teams up. Goku's squad would feature heroes like Piccolo, Gohan, Roshi, Android 17, Android 18, and more. However, it seems like that may all change.

Late last month, fans began to wonder if Universe 7 would be undergoing a team swap when a slew of new episode titles were released. Episodes 91-92 had their names revealed, leaving fans to wonder what "The Mightiest Warriors Assemble" and "All The Members Aren't Here?" could mean. It is the latter episode which has fans thinking Goku's team is in trouble, and it may force the Saiyan to recruit a last-minute filler for whoever is missing.

Toyotaro's teaser about Dragon Ball Super's impending flip-flop has fans on the edge of their nimbus clouds. Many confessed they were disappointed they had already been told Goku's team and its line-up before the anime started its recent arc; However, if that first roster is changed, then fans will get to experience an adrenaline rush when they discover which other fighters are prompted to fight alongside Goku.

Just, don't let it be Yamcha.

Dragon Ball Super's "Universal Survival" saga is part of the recent simulcast agreement that sites like Crunchyroll and Funimation have scored. Dragon Ball Super airs on Crunchyroll Saturdays at 7:15 p.m. CST. Toonami will begin airing the English dub on Adult Swim Saturdays at 11:30 p.m.
