Plans for the live-action Naruto movie have made steady progress and now the script is getting a re-write from a formidable team with another fan-favorite adaptation to their names.

Brothers Jon and Erich Hoeber, who previously tackled RED and RED 2, just signed on to rewrite the script for the film according to a new report from The Hollywood Reporter.

The film has long been in development, with former visual effects artist Michael Gracey attached to direct since 2015. Gracey will soon make his directorial debut with The Greatest Showman, a musical based on P.T. Barnum, while Avi Arad is producing as part of Arad productions.

The movie will likely tell the beginnings of Naruto Uzumaki, a young and immature orphan who becomes a ninja and wants to be the leader of his village. The long-running manga from creator Masashi Kishimoto began in 1997 and is currently succeeded by a spinoff about Naruto's son, Boruto.

Naruto spawned an anime series that ran from 2002 to 2007, while an English dub of the anime aired on Cartoon Network from 2005 to 2009. The Boruto anime is now airing, as well.

The Hoebers also previously wrote the script based on the Oni Press comic Whiteout, so they have experience in adapting comics, as well as making comics of their own. They previously created 'The Mission' with artist Werther Dell'Edera for Image Comics. They also wrote the script for Battleship, based on the board game.

No word on a planned release date for the Naruto movie, but fans can get their fill with Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, now airing.
