What We Know About Dragon Ball's First Female Super Saiyan

If things are as they appear, then it looks like Dragon Ball is about to introduce its first major female Super Saiyan. Not long ago, the folks over at Fuji TV released an anime preview of Dragon Ball Super's upcoming 'Universal Survival' arc, and it showed a few Super Saiyan figures who weren't Vegeta or Goku. Universe 6 came in strong with the addition of Cabba, but it was a mysterious female warrior who caught everyone's attention.

In the preview, fans watched as a slender young woman wearing a crop top transformed into a raging Super Saiyan. Fans were stunned by the affair as the woman turned into someone who looked just like a Female Broly. Of course, the Legendary Super Saiyan is a controversial one given his questionable canonicity, but it seems like Akira Toriyama may be paying homage to the famous villain with this mysterious character.

So far, fans know very little about the female Super Saiyan and her familiar transformation. Audiences can only presume that the warrior hails from Universe 6 along with Cabba, but fans are questioning whether the woman survived elsewhere amongst the anime's diverse universes.

Of course, there have been other females in Dragon Ball who have housed Saiyan blood. The most famous would be Pan, the daughter of Videl and Gohan. The quarter-Saiyan is a formidable fighter by the time Dragon Ball GT rolls around, but she does not have the ability to go Super Saiyan so far. There is also another female Saiyan known as Gine who is the mother of Goku and Raditz. However, there is no evidence that Gine underwent any Super Saiyan transformations though it is hinted she can turn into a Great Ape.

There is one female character who can go Super Saiyan, but she's not considered canon given her video game roots. Dragon Ball Heroes introduced a playable character named Viola who could use time travel technology to help her go Super Saiyan.

Now, it looks like Dragon Ball Super is about to bring in a full-fledged Super Saiyan who is both strong and considered canon. For years now, fans have wondered why no female Saiyans have be shown in force yet, but there's no definitive answer to the question. Many have assigned the reasoning to the Saiyan genocide wiping the race's females, but the answer could be that Toriyama simply had no plans to feature a female Super Saiyan. Well, until now, that is.

Dragon Ball Super airs on Crunchyroll Saturdays at 7:15 p.m. CST. Toonami will begin airing the English dub on Adult Swim Saturdays at 11:30 p.m.
