Comic Book Thief Makes Leap Through Second-Story Window

An attempt to shoplift from the second-floor store of Midtown Comics in New York City yesterday ended with a surprising leap by the thief.

According to ABC 7 in New York, a man was "running wild" through the 40th Street and 7th Avenue location of Midtown Comics. When employees at the store noticed the man was attempting to shoplift comic books, they attempted to stop him. The man responded by diving through a plate-glass window onto the sidewalk below.

The sidewalk on this Tuesday afternoon was busy with pedestrians and vendors. One of those vendors, Demo Helim, was able to keep the suspect in the area long enough for police to arrive and take him into custody.

Police then spent an hour busting out the remaining glass from the window and clearing the street of glass debris to ensure it was safe for public use.

The man was bloodied and was taken to the hospital, but came away from his stunt-like leap with surprisingly minor injuries. The man was identified as a 24-year-old homeless man, and he is now charged with criminal mischief, assault, criminal possession of a controlled substance, and unlawful possession of marijuana.
