Spawn Is Getting 25th Anniversary Variant Covers In May

This year is a big year for Todd McFarlane's popular anti-hero, and Image is celebrating Spawn's 25th anniversary with a slew of slick new variant covers. Not wanting to hog the spotlight though, the anniversary variants will find their way to many of Image's other titles during the month of May.

Artists like Greg Hinkle, Kaare Kyle Andrews, Jim Mahfood, David Finch, Jerome Opena, Sjepan Sejic, and Chris Samnee will bring their own take on the Spawn universe to their covers, and as you can imagine it led to some fantastic results. Spawn #272 is in stores now, which is written by Friends and Todd McFarlane, with art by Szymon Kudranski and a cover by Nivanh Chanthara. The description reads "Spawn comes face to face with one of his BIGGEST mortal enemies." On May 17 the Spawn #1 25th Anniversary Director's Cut hits store shelves, with the description "2017 marks the 25th anniversary of SPAWN, created by TODD McFARLANE. Spawn debuted to the public, selling 1.7 million copies in 1992 and is on track to be the longest running independent comic ever." The book is written by Todd McFarlane who also provides the art, with covers by Ashley Wood and Clayton Crain.
