Alicia Silverstone Hated Her Batgirl Costume But She'd Suit Up Again

At one point in time, comic book fans had to settle for whatever superhero movie they could get, which resulted in the Joel Schumacher-directed debacleBatman & Robin. Among many contributions the film made to the franchise, it gave us Alicia Silverstone as Batgirl. 20 years after its release, the actress reveals she'd be willing to reprise her role, but would demand the costume designer make "the boobs a little smaller."

When speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Silverstone explained, "I was just like, didn't want to be in the suit. It was so uncomfortable." She added, "Maybe we can make the boobs a little smaller, they were massive…maybe tone down the nipples."

Thanks to Batman's suits in Schumacher's installments, there was a notable shift in fans' outlooks to the franchise, as he incorporated nipples to the exterior of the rubber suits.

When speaking with Vice, the director explained his thought process behind the suits, saying, "Well, it was made by Jose Fernandez, who was our brilliant lead sculpture. If you look at Batman and Batman Returns, it was the genius, Bob Ringwood, that created those suits, so by the time we got to Batman Forever, the rubber and techniques had gotten so sophisticated."

He continued, "If you look at when Michael Keaton appears in the first suit, you'll notice how large it is. It was brilliant, but the best they could do at the time. By the time Batman Forever came around, rubber molding had become so much more advanced. So I said, let's make it anatomical and gave photos of those Greek status and those incredible anatomical drawings you see in medical books. He did the nipples, and when I looked at them, I thought, 'That's cool.'"

Coming from the school of thought that more is always better, one of the biggest issues with Batman & Robin was having three villains in Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, and Bane that faced off against the three heroes Batman, Robin, and Batgirl. The large cast didn't allow them all to develop equally, ultimately making the film feel bloated.

Although she might not have enjoyed the costume, Silverstone would love another crack at the character.

"I'd like to do it again," Silverstone revealed. "I think if I did it right now I'd be a much better Batgirl."
