Ant-Man and The Dark Knight's Dastmalchian Cast As Iconic Flash Villain

03/06/2017 06:05 pm EST

David Dastmalchian, known to comic book fans for his roles in The Dark Knight, Ant-Man, and Gotham, has been cast as Abra Kadabra in an upcoming episode of The CW's The Flash.

The villain, a classic Flash rogue and one of the final members of the traditional Rogues Gallery who had yet to appear on the series, is a time traveler who uses futuristic technology that mimics magic.

His official description for the TV series describes him as "a criminal from a distant future whose advanced technological powers seem like magic, the time-traveling Abra Kadabra (David Dastmalchian) holds a secret the Flash will stop at nothing to uncover."

The official DC website, where the casting was announced, noted that Kadabra "has no actual magical powers, though in one notable storyline, he was temporarily given the gift of sorcery thanks to a deal he made with the Green Lantern villain Neron." That storyline, titled Underworld Unleashed, seems a bit of a random one to free associate with the character, so we almost wonder whether some element of that version will play into the TV series.

In the comics, the 64th Century villain most recently appeared in Titans, where he had a grudge against Wally West and appeared to know the truth about the mysterious connections between DC Universe: Rebirth and Watchmen.

ComicBook.com has previously speculated that many of the players and story elements are in place for season 4 of The Flash to play with the '80s storyline The Trial of The Flash, in which The Flash was tried for murder after he killed the Reverse-Flash. He was eventually acquitted after Kadabra brainwashed the judge and jury.
